Baker Steet Air Filters

GEF supported the air purification units at Baker Street Station, handling all electrical works, testing, and performance monitoring.

Project Overview

As part of a broader initiative to improve air quality within the London Underground network, Transport for London (TfL) launched a trial installation of air purification technology at Baker Street Station. Green Energy Futures provided the electrical infrastructure and support services required for the deployment and evaluation of these purification units.

This high-profile project was designed not only to assess the performance of the purification technology but also to evaluate its feasibility for wider rollout across the network.

Our team was responsible for delivering a comprehensive, end-to-end electrical solution under complex operating conditions within one of London’s busiest and most historically significant stations. Key responsibilities included:

  • Custom Electrical Design & Approvals: Developed detailed, site-specific electrical schematics and secured the necessary approvals from TfL and other stakeholders. Designs ensured minimal disruption to station operations and conformed to strict safety and engineering standards.
  • Safe System of Works & Isolation Planning: Designed and implemented a robust Safe System of Works, including isolation plans compliant with TfL’s operational protocols, to ensure safe installation in a live, operational environment.
  • Installation of Temporary Electrical Supplies: Installed temporary power feeds to support the purification units. All works were tested and certified to NICEIC standards, ensuring full compliance and electrical safety.
  • Deployment via TfL Engineering Vehicles: Coordinated the logistics and physical deployment of the purification units using TfL’s dedicated engineering vehicles, operating during engineering hours to avoid service disruption.
  • Ongoing Monitoring & Maintenance: Performed scheduled filter changes and carried out detailed dust and air quality analysis to measure the effectiveness of the units over time and inform TfL’s data-driven evaluation.

The trial has enabled TfL to collect valuable data on airborne particulate reduction, supporting its goal of improving passenger and staff air quality in underground environments. Our agile approach and deep understanding of TfL’s operational environment were key to the project’s success.
